David Wm. Marsh is a Canadian watercolour and plein air artist whose work is deeply rooted in impressionism and shaped by the expressive traditions of John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer. His paintings are known for their loose, fluid brushwork and a sense of movement that captures the fleeting rhythms of light, weather, and landscape.

Originally from Montreal, David’s creative voice has been influenced by a life lived in many chapters. A retired military officer and soldier, he went on to build successful careers in both the corporate and entrepreneurial worlds before returning to the artistic pursuits that had always called to him. Today, David paints from Maple Brook the country home in Auburn, Nova Scotia he shares with his wife Karen and their German shepherd, Mathilda. Surrounded by fields, gardens and the quiet pulse of rural life, he continues to explore the natural world through colour, gesture, and atmosphere.

When he’s not at the easel, David remains immersed in creativity as a working actor and writer, bringing the same curiosity and observational depth to his performances and storytelling that he brings to his paintings. Retirement, for David, is simply another canvas — one filled with craft, exploration, and the joy of making.
