Judith Dodd
Originally from Thunder Bay, I relocated to Nova Scotia after retirement from teaching in 2014. I have had a lifelong love of arts and crafts. I have explored needlework, embroidery, smocking, crazy quilting, rug hooking, decoupage, printmaking, sewing, Celtic design, folk art painting, calligraphy, basket making, wood carving, stained glass and, most recently, building scale 1:24 miniature rooms. I studied design, print making and drawing at Lakehead University. I took pen and ink, and pencil drawing courses at the TBay 65+ Centre.
My friends Marita and Jenneth encouraged me to stop being such a craft butterfly and to concentrate on acrylic painting and on developing my skills in that area. My favourite artists include Gustav Klimt, Carl Larsson, Kay Neilsen and Brian Froud – all of whose art tends toward illustrative drawing. I would like to develop a style that combines drawing and painting in equal measure.
